Every action of Puller’s since his childhood was always in direction of achieving his dream. He failed many times, was disheartened too but never gave up. He stumbled and fall but he again stood up and walked the path of his goals. His dedication made him a legend.
His legacy was continued. Marine Corps’ mascot, a purebred English bulldog is named “Chesty Pullerton”. He is still remembered by marines when they say “Good night, Chesty Puller, wherever you are!” Often in boot camp, the battalion would say, “Chesty Puller never quit!” In boot camp, a marine’s comfort is to tell themselves, “It was good for Chesty Puller, and it’s good enough for me.” Not just this, in order to honor his legacy, every year, a Marine Corps detachment from Fort Lee, Virginia, would run a 66-mile distance all the way to Puller’s grave in his honor. His legacy lives on indeed.
Puller’s whole life has been series of lessons. We could learn from him. persistence, determination, hard work and attitude of never giving up. He truly was and will be a legend.
